MOTHERWOUNDS - La Herida Materna
This is an ongoing series highlighting the different relationships we have with the people who raised us. We are all not raised by our parents. We are raised by our communities, friends, aunts, uncles, grandparents, neighbors, single parent-households, and foster parents. I was put in a position to adopt my younger brother at a young age and I had to navigate the spaces between being his sister but also being a parent he didn't have - meanwhile I needed someone to guide me. My father was deported when I was a teenager due to him being a violent father since he was an immigrant. My mother fell to depression and used substances to numb the pain. My aim is to heal my own parent wounds.
